Canada pledged to fight infectious diseases including tuberculosis at the G8 Summit in Japan. The G8 countries agreed to reduce the number of people with TB worldwide by 50% by the year 2010. When asked if it was not too ambitious for the G8 to have made this pledge Prime Minister Chretien said: ``Yes, it's ambitious. It has to be ambitious.''
